Do adults need vaccines?

by Rachel Burt, Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner at Roswell OB/GYN………………………………….

Yes! Our pediatricians help us keep our kids up to date on their vaccines, but when was the last time you got a vaccine?  If you can’t remember, then it is time to get vaccinated.  Women need to get the flu shot yearly, the tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (TDap) vaccine every ten years, and hepatitis A and B one time in your adult life.  Many women have not been vaccinated since college.  We have recently seen a surge in pertussis – whooping cough- outbreaks.  If you ever eat our at a restaurant, get a pedicure or manicure, travel on airplanes, have a young child at home or visit older relatives then you should get vaccinated.  These diseases can cause significant complications and even death.  They are preventable.  Please contact our office to get yourself vaccinated.
